Taking
Control: A Lifestyle Program to Manage Stress.
This class addresses the physiological, psychological and
social impact of chronic and acute stress on the individual and the
family. Discussion includes identification of personal stressors,
including how they affect us and how they relate to heart disease.
Various stress management strategies are presented with the opportunity
for practice.

Exercise
For Life: Understanding Your Exercise Prescription.
The first part discusses proper posture and body mechanics
during exercise and lifting, and protecting the back from injury.
The second part of the class provides the "nuts and bolts" of an exercise
program by defining the exercise prescription for the cardiac patient
and presenting the expected health benefits and necessary information
about exercise conditioning.

Living
Well: Understanding Vascular Disease and How To Prevent It.
Taught by Cardiopulmonary Rehab staff, this is a comprehensive
class that discusses coronary artery disease and other forms of heart
and vascular disease and atherosclerosis. Interventions such as exercise,
angioplasty, bypass surgery and medications are presented with the
opportunity to have individual questions answered. Discussion includes
cardiac risk factors and ways to reduce their impact.

HealthQuest.
A program providing medically supervised and individually
tailored exercise for up to 12 weeks. HealthQuest is ideal for people
just beginning an exercise program or for persons experiencing a health
problem who require supervision. This program is jointly conducted
with ACAC and is designed to progress participants toward independent
exercise as tolerance improves and a safe maintenance level is reached.
Fee; physician referral is required.

A 12-week exercise and education program for people interested in
attaining and maintaining a healthy weight. This course emphasizes
healthful lifestyle changes in exercise, nutrition and eating habits
within a supportive group environment.

A low-impact aerobic exercise program led by certified
aerobics instructors. Classes are small, and movements are modified
for individuals as needed.

On.
An exercise program for people who have or have experienced
cancer. This course uses low-impact aerobics to improve physical stamina,
strength and well-being. Classes are small and held in a private setting
to assure confidentiality and greater comfort.
Free to all cancer patients and former cancer patients.

This program is for anyone interested in walking in the
safe, climate-controlled indoor environment of Charlottesville Fashion
Square. Our staff is there every Wednesday from 7-9 a.m. to take blood
